SOWETO JUNE 16 1976 #sowetouprising

A 50’ television promo for Channel O x Vuzu Amp A Youth Day promo design for an event in Soweto, Zone 6. With education being the driving force behind the 1976 Soweto Uprising, the design was based on an expressive form of writing. With graffitti being a rebellious and raw form of expression be it in art or politics. We used brush fonts and vintage imagery to capture 1976, in a 2016 era. For it to be loud and unappologettic with the mind state being reflective of both era’s, especially when looking at the #FEESMUSTFALL. Also fusing the current look of great Hip-Hop albums such as To Pimp A Butterfly, and get a contemporary look from Views from 6. We are the current youth of Soweto and South Africa, offsprings off the 1976 students. For us June 16 is more than a holiday, it is a reminder of who we are, where we are from, and where we are going.
